Lisa Briggs

Prior to starting with Fitness Revolution, Lisa didn’t have a consistent fitness routine since college. Instead, she allowed her everyday life to take over, and she put herself on the back burner. Like many women, after Lisa had her baby (in 1999) she kept on the weight she had gained during pregnancy.

Realizing she “felt fat and unattractive”, had low confidence, and her depression had become more of an issue, she knew she had to do something. Lisa was intrigued when she saw an ad for the Drop a Dress Size in 21 Days program and signed up right away. After her three weeks were finished, Lisa wasn’t motivated enough and wasn’t yet willing to stay committed to a new lifestyle.

At the start of the New Year and missing the routine she had a glimpse of, she decided it was time to finally commit to change.

“I knew the program and routine had to be for myself and no one else in order for it to work and I was finally ready.”

Lisa has participated in many of the challenges and enjoys the added benefits they offer. She loves that they are something to help her stay committed to her new fitness and nutrition lifestyle. Plus, she’s seen incredible results. Lisa transformed her body from an unfit 170-pounds (size 14) to a strong & healthy 130 pounds (size 6)!

Carolyn Dahlin

Even though she worked at a dance studio for 11 years, Carolyn hadn’t really exercised for herself in years. She recalls that the closest she came to exercising was working with the preschool classes. She never really found any fun in exercising, so she didn’t do it.

That all changed when she was introduced to Fitness Revolution.

After returning home from a family vacation, Carolyn was looking through photos from her recent trip. She had always said she felt good, but seeing herself in photos she started realizing she didn’t “look good” and she didn’t like it. Combine the feeling of seeing herself in the photos with her Dad being diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s at only 62 years old just a year prior, she knew she needed a change, but wasn’t sure where to begin.

Thanks to Tara, a mutual friend of Carolyn and Justin Yule, co-owner of Fitness Revolution in Chanhassen, she attended (simply to “support Tara”) a Saturday workshop on a cold day in March. When asking her about this workshop, she vividly remembers the ‘stick figure’* drawing that Justin displayed and how she connected to that piece.

From that workshop, Carolyn signed up for a 12-week education and support program, Maximize Your Metabolism, and lost her first 12 pounds. Although intimidated at first, she liked the small group setting and the support she received – little did she know how much growth she would experience over the next year…in herself AND with FR.

“You get out what you put into it.”

After committing to 12 weeks and finishing with 12 pounds under her belt, Carolyn was ready to make a bigger commitment. She signed up for training. After a challenging first month, she started feeling “the shift”. By her third month, and her so far longest-pointexercising-consistently, she felt her first ever exercise “high.” She remembers walking out of the gym saying, “I feel strong!” and it was then that she realized she took ownership. Carolyn admits that there was a shift from “I should go” to “I’m going to go” to “I get to go”.

“This is what I do – it’s my workout and it’s great!”

By the end of her first 4 months of training, she had lost nearly 50 poundsand was in love with the newfound energy and ability to focus on herself. She had another vacation and it felt great to be totally comfortable with her body in her “vacation clothes.” Carolyn is in love with her new life!

Today Carolyn continues to challenge herself with new fitness goals, and she even got her husband Dan to join Fitness Revolution!

Shelly Kasid

When she returned to school in the fall, she received many comments and questions about what she’d been doing. She was delighted, realizing she felt healthy and strong for the first time. Shelly admits, however, that she wasn’t able to manage the schedule at that time and left FR during the school year.

When summer 2012 came around, Shelly was back in the program and fell in love all over again. This time was different. She realized she needed the connection with others to help her stay motivated toward her goals. When Justin Yule, Fitness Revolutions owner, mentioned he was looking for a couple of part-time Assistant Coaches, Shelly knew she wanted to be involved.

“Having a background in physical education, I knew Fitness Revolution was unique, and I wanted to help others while getting to do something that I love.”

With her fitness journey on track, Shelly wanted to do more and make a real commitment to a lifestyle change, including her nutrition – that’s when she reached out to Janell. Knowing it needed to work for her entire family, she quickly understood,

“If I’m putting good food into my body, then they will too.”

After having worked with Janell, she decided to participate in the 21-Day Detox at the beginning of 2013. She jokes that at first people thought she was crazy, but then her friends came to her for answers when they saw all of the additional results she was getting.

“I knew changes were really happening when my pants started falling down during a workout!”

For the first time in her life, Shelly is excited to go shopping. During her time with Fitness Revolution, Shelly has dropped 35 pounds and went from a size 12 down to a very buff size 2.She now understands what it’s like to be comfortable in her own skin. When her husband says she looks great, she now believes him. :)

Karen Hongslo

Uncertain of what to expect, Karen was ready to get out of her rut. She’d always been thin so didn’t think much about the consequences of eating whatever she wanted…

Karen realized that she’d been taking her health for granted when at 44 years old, in July 2010, she experienced a full stroke and ended up having brain stem surgery. It was the start to a wakeup call.

Karen’s journey with Fitness Revolution started with a colleague’s encouragement. She is grateful for her persistence as it took a year before Karen decided to do it for herself. It wasn’t until she saw the changes in her friend, that she was willing to set aside her feelings of unworthiness.

“I thought, if I didn’t go, no one would know the difference. And, if I did go, I’d be putting myself out there and that was scary.”

Finally setting aside her fear, letting go of the potential judgment of others, she took the plunge and started with Fitness Revolution in June 2012. When she started, she could barely do 3 pushups on her knees but understood very quickly that she was in the right place. The individualized training made it comfortable for her to fit right in.

Karen admits to always using food as a reward, and in turn, it was the key that was holding her back from reaching her full potential. By February 2013 she had fully committed herself to the program and when the 21-Day Detox Challenge was offered, she was skeptical, but curious enough to try it. For her it was never about weight loss and instead was about the energy. After her stroke, she continually felt fatigued and as if she was “living in a fog”.

Knowing that food was her crutch, she wasn’t sure what would happen. By the end of the detox, she had lost 15 pounds and ended up winning the challenge!Having that success was huge for Karen, but even more important was the joint pain she had been suffering from was completely gone and the energy she felt was “unreal”. Plus, she’d gained new insights and awareness about herself.

“I used to wake up groggy and it would take a while to get going. Now, I wake up ready to get busy and the energy lasts all day!”

Fitness Revolution is now a part of Karen’s continual journey and she has adjusted her schedule to make it work. In her community she is now seen as the inspiration for others and although she says, “I’m not a fitness guru or health guru”, she is impacting others by the changes she’s made.

Krish Keifer

By the time Krish found Fitness Revolution, she had been on her health journey for a few years. She started by reading and studying, and realized very quickly that she had choices. That awareness was a catalyst for her change. As she read and learned more, she knew at the core of her being that health – fitness and nutrition – was very important and something she desired. She began understanding what her body needs to “not manifest cancer” and instead find a healthy balance in her life.

As Krish continued learning on her own, she found many of the answers she needed but wasn’t consistent. She admits that she didn’t rank her health at all on her list of priorities. Like many others, Krish had tried so many things and “life would come up” - she always found a reason why she couldn’t stay committed.

“It has to be MY choice – it has to come from within.”

Krish knew Justin, co-owner of Fitness Revolution in Chanhassen, from a local networking group they’re both members of. After hearing Justin say that many people gain more weight between Thanksgiving and Christmas than they do between Christmas and Thanksgiving, she decided to take Justin up on his Holiday Survival Challenge. At that moment, she committed herself to the program and KNEW that she would be different.

Within a few weeks of attending, Krish was convinced she’d be a long time member. She understands that we all have a choice in where we spend our dollars and she quickly shifted her priorities and made her workouts a non-negotiable in her calendar.

Aside from the fact that she has lost over 30 pounds and has gone from a size 14 down to a size 8, Krish really loves the energy and being comfortable in her own skin. She loves that her energy now matches the confidence she feels. She has also noticed big changes in her family and friends. Her Mom has witnessed her change and has since started her own health and wellness journey!

Today Krish continues to work hard on her fitness program and her pursuit of health & fitness knowledge. She loves learning and has put that passion toward improving herself and her family’s well being.

Michele Brick

When Michele started with Chanhassen Fitness Revolution she was searching for the “right fit.” She already knew she didn’t want to be part of a “big box” gym and was looking for something consistent yet also offered a variety. In the summer of 2012, when she read about Fitness Revolution, she was immediately intrigued and decided to give it a try.

That fall, Michele decided to dive all-in and participated in the Back to School Challenge and additional nutrition classes that Janell Yule, Chief Nutrition Officer of Chanhassen Fitness Revolution, offered. She was familiar with much of the information, but never knew why any of it was important. Through Janell’s sharing, Michele was able to connect the pieces together and that was the key to changing her life.

“I realized I have to be ready to accept it and embrace a new way of life.”

A few more weeks into the program she noticed significant changes in her energy. Now she can automatically tell the difference and the role nutrition plays in her life. Although fitness has always been a part of her life, as a 56 year old she’s excited to share that she feels stronger than she’s felt in years!

Surprisingly, one of the biggest changes that has happened for Michele was letting go of running. She had always been told that running had incredible benefits and after learning more from Justin Yule, Chief Fitness Officer of Chanhassen Fitness Revolution, about the negative impact running can have and the difference that FR offers, Michele gave herself permission to let go of running.

“When I joined FR, the huge burden of long-distance running had been lifted. I had been released.”

Overall, Michele is in a much better place – mentally and physically. She is much more at peace and Chanhassen Fitness Revolution is more in sync with her lifestyle. She gives the credit to both Justin and Janell for the incredible impact and changing how she views fitness and nutrition.

Who We Are

Janell and I both know and understand the struggles of being overweight, feeling uncomfortable in our skin, and being embarrassed to wear a bathing suit or revealing clothes in front of friends. We both started our fitness journeys on a quest to better ourselves, which eventually led to us meeting and ultimately falling in love. Today, we’re blessed to be able to work together and share our passion for living a healthy and fit life with the Members of Chanhassen Fitness Revolution.

Since starting our fitness careers we’ve literally helped thousands of clients across the nation (even around the globe now) lose weight and get in better shape than they ever thought possible.

Janell Yule,

BS, CPT, FDN is the Chief Nutrition Officer of Fitness Revolution in Chanhassen, MN. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion & Wellness with a Minor in Psychology. Janell is a certified Functional Diagnostic Nutrition practitioner, as well as a certified personal trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

Janell has been helping clients lose weight and feel great since 2005. She was voted Best Coach in Chanhassen in 2008 while working for a major national health club company. Today she focuses her time researching, developing and implementing nutrition & healthy lifestyle programs that help her clients look, feel and perform their very best in the gym, while they work and at home with their families.

1. TRAINING

Perhaps the most obvious of The 4 Pillars is TRAINING. If you’re serious about losing weight, toning up, and even burning fat while you sleep, then Metabolic Resistance Training (MRT) is the way to go. MRT is a form of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) that involves total body, resistance-based exercises done in quick succession with little or no rest between. HIIT protocols use a variety of work to rest ratios performed for multiple rounds. Typical workouts last 10 – 30 minutes. They’re also W-A-Y more fun than traditional workouts! You’re going to love doing these workouts!

HOWEVER, MRT isn’t as simple as pairing up exercises and “getting after it” for a series of intervals. The exercise selection is CRITICAL and those choices must be INDIVIDUALIZED. While we train in a group setting at Chanhassen Fitness Revolution, each workout is individualized to your needs (fitness and function levels) based on a comprehensive movement screen and training system. You literally have a personal training program without the high prices of one-on-one training, PLUS you get all the benefits of working out in a group! It’s a beautiful thing.

Another unique thing about Chanhassen Fitness Revolution is how we program our workouts. Many trainers design their workouts week-to-week or even day-to-day (aka, “workout of the day”). A real training program is designed much further out with a lot of thought being put into it to ensure a proper training “flow” which provides the best possible results that last a lifetime.

This process is referred to as periodization. Periodization employs phase-specific variations of training, each with a specific goal or training adaptation (strong, slim, sexy). Periodization systematically overloads the body to create a desired physical change while balancing work and rest to avoid overtraining, burnout, and/or injury. Ultimately, the annual training program aims at achieving the best possible, long-term results for you.

2. NUTRITION

“You simply cannot out-exercise a bad diet.”

Here’s an interesting fact: The National Weight Control Registry found that 89% of people who lost 30 or more pounds and kept it off for at least one year accomplished their goals through a combination of diet and exercise. In that study only 10% succeeded using diet alone, and only 1% using exercise alone.

BOTTOM LINE: You need to support your exercise program with a proper nutrition program. Now, here’s the GOOD NEWS- More than likely, what you think is good nutrition, what you’ve been told is good nutrition, is most likely completely false. In other words, a supportive weight loss and fitness nutrition program is NOT about eating low-fat, no-taste, boring meals. In fact, it’s quite the opposite!

testimony10“I started at Fitness Revolution in September 2013. Coming off of a few vacations, I found myself the heaviest I had ever been (even at the time of the birth of both my children!) and knew I had to do try something different. I had been a member at the local ‘big box gym’, but my inexperience for how to actually workout kept me from ever meeting a goal I wanted.

I am a mother of three boys, working towards my PhD and working full time so excuses were really easy to come by. What I knew was that I wanted to be able to spend time with my children at the pool, playing sports, and goofing around but my weight was holding me back from doing all of those things. I was FAR to embarrassed to put on a swimsuit, was winded after a few kicks of a soccer ball and usually just sat and watched them play. Having been an athlete most of my life it was a very dark place to be.

I wasn’t really sure what I was getting into but I was confident that I was in the right place. The TEAM at FR made me feel at home, comfortable and showed me how to work out for ME. We personalize everything in our lives from our coffee to our phones to our vehicles. Why wouldn’t you personalize your workout? I remember setting my “goals” and writing down that I wanted to lose 50 pounds. I have accomplished many things in my life, including surviving cancer, but I just couldn’t imagine ever being able to conquer my weight issue.

Within the first month, I began to loose some inches, gain strength and most importantly self-confidence. I started a participated in the 21-Day Detox Challenge, which really kicked my weight loss into high gear. Learning from Janell what foods actually give your body what you need and which ones harm you and in what ways really changed my outlook on eating. All of this training was something I had never had before. Foods that I thought were healthy were really sabotaging me. I lost a few pounds with the first 21-Day Detox Challenge and some inches, but what I had really gained was the knowledge I needed to change my lifestyle. I continued pushing myself, signing up for each of different Transformation Challenges as it was the support and accountability I really needed.
